Midnight Moms!

Well - I had this idea to post all day, but am now just getting to it. So Monday Moms becomes Midnight Moms this week...

"Family dinner feeds the soul more than it feeds the body." - Me

(Yes - I just wrote my own quote. I couldn't find a good one that went along with what I wanted to talk about - so there you go...)

Family dinner is a lost art. It seems that our world is far too busy to bother with the nuisance of actually cooking dinner, sitting at a table, and eating with another family member present. This is very sad to me. There is no better time to re-connect with your family than around the kitchen table. There is no better time to ignore the distractions of the day and focus on actually having a conversation. There is no better time to eat good food!

With Blake out of the house 2 nights a week - Paisley and I had started a bad habit of those being our "grab whatever" to eat nights. I realized after a few times though that both of us were eating pretty junky stuff and that I was missing an oppurtunity to enjoy a different kind of family dinner. So now, even though is just Paisley and me, I make sure that we are home around dinner time, that I cook something somewhat nutritous, and that we sit at the table. Our conversation usually consists of airplane noises, random songs, and "Please don't dump that." From the outside, it doesn't look like much is taking place - but I can tell the difference. For me, family dinner gives a balance to the night... without it our bodies might be full but our souls will be starving for something more.

Our house has become the place to be at 6:00. The neighbor kids all appear knowing that we will set a plate for them and they can join in on our family dinner. Monte and I feel so bad for all these little kids that don't have families to eat with or that don't take the time to eat with them. We truely believe it makes a difference in the lives of our children and in our family. I think all the problems of the world could easily be solved if every family sat down to eat together. Great post!!!

I agree with everything you said! We had gotten in a bad habit over the summer. There is such a difference when we sit down with whoever is home and have our dinner. I think it's so neat that you have figured this out so young! It will make such a difference in your family! But then you are a pretty amazing person! I always learn so much from you!

Great post! One of the strong points of the family relationship is family dinner - almost a lost art but enjoying somewhat of a revival it sounds like. Some of my favorite memories are from family dinners. We have went full circle - just the 2 of us up to 8 kids and friends back down to just the 2 of us and they are still special. Very insightful my young grasshopper.
